The WebQuest method, although sometimes used at the primary/general education level, is very
rarely used at the vocational/technical education level, although these tools are highly relevant to
the VET sector as well, allowing for the adaptation of teaching methods to the dynamically changing
labour market.
Employers nowadays expect their employees to have not only extensive industry
knowledge but also strong social skills. The curricula of vocational/technical education programmes
focus mainly on teaching students hard vocational/technical skills and qualifications. The modern
labour market also expects graduates of these types of schools to have so-called ‘soft skills’, i.e. a set
of characteristics, skills and attitudes that enable them to perform professional tasks at an effective
level. WebQuests allow students to develop the soft/social skills expected by future employers, such
as communication, conflict resolution, teamwork, motivation, social adaptation, working under
pressure, negotiation, assertiveness, time management, creativity, cooperation, problem solving,
which are currently not sufficiently developed in the core curriculum of vocational/technical schools
using traditional teaching methods. Implementing this method in educational institutions at the level
of vocational/technical education will enable the transition to digital education that meets the
challenges of the 21st century.
